THE PREPARATION OF GOD’S ARMY
This great army of endtime saints who, in the fullness of time, shall take the kingdom and destroy the rule of the enemy is even now, at the time of this writing, being prepared to march forth and bring to pass this glorious victory. That all who are to be in this Army may be awakened to the urgency of the hour the prophet Joel calls upon those who see these things to sound an alarm, saying, “Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain: let all the inhabitants of the land tremble: for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh at hand; a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and of thick darkness, as the morning spread upon the mountains: a great people and a strong; there hath not been ever the like, neither shall there be any more after it, even to the years of many generations. A force devoureth before them; and behind them a flame burneth: the land is as the garden of Eden before them, and behind them is a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing shall escape them. AND THE LORD SHALL UTTER HIS VOICE BEFORE HIS ARMY: FOR HIS CAMP IS VERY GREAT: for He is strong that executeth His word: for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible; and who can abide it?” (Joel 2:13, 11).
This Army of the Lord must face the terrible conditions of the evil day, when the dread elements now preparing for the conflict, the fire, shall have reached the climax of readiness. This Army it is that under the Lord’s command will overthrow the thrones of kingdoms and destroy the strength of the kingdoms of the nations (Hag 2:22). But where is there such an Army?
God is preparing such an Army. We now want to present this Army. “Blow ye the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain… And the Lord shall utter His voice before His army: for His camp is very great… for the day of the Lord is great and very terrible” (Joel 2:1, 11). The trumpet blows in Zion – Mount Zion. The Army of the Lord is in Zion. The people who hear this trumpet and heed its call are pictured in Rev 14:1: “And I looked, and lo, a Lamb stood on Mount Zion, and with Him and hundred forty and four thousand, having His Father’s name written in their foreheads”. This company of 144,000 stands upon Mount Zion in all the glory and majesty of their Redeemer. Mount Zion, the highest hill in Jerusalem, represents the very highest position attainable in God’s kingdom. Such are the ruling class in the capital city of God’s kingdom, the New Jerusalem, prefigured by king David of old who dwelt on the natural Mount Zion in the earthly Jerusalem. From there he reigned. This company, standing on Mount Zion, followers of the Lamb, can represent nothing other than those who have followed Jesus all the way, who have suffered with Him even unto death (of self), and shall now reign with Him on His throne forevermore. They are overcomers. They are “the armies which were in heaven” which followed Him that sat upon the white horse, and they too ride “upon white horses, clothed in fine linen white and clean” (Rev 19:14). A horse in prophecy is a symbol of speed and strength in war. White stands for righteousness. So Christ and His armies coming upon white horses denotes that they come in swift, strong, and righteous judgment.
